Hey Everyone!  So the other day I was out with my whole family for my cousin’s birthday.  My family is so awesome we get together for every person’s birthday in our fam, which is pretty unusual for some people, but I love the closeness I have with my family.  Anyways my cousin received a volumizing hair powder as one of her gifts, which brings me to my next point – volumizing hair powder!  This stuff is amazing, and I have talked about one before called Surface Push Powder, but there are so many different brands out there so I am going to give you a run down of what exactly volumizing powder is and which ones are the best!

What is a volumizing hair powder? – I am a big fan of big hair!  Volume can take your hair from flat and lifeless, to bold, big, and beautiful.  Some options include applying a mousse to damp hair, back combing on dry hair and so much more.  The new trend lately is volumizing powders that literally make your hair have so much body, volume and texture.  You just sprinkle it on the roots wherever you want a little volume, massage it into your scalp, and then comb through.  Then you can backcomb a little for an added boost, or just style hair as usual.  Immediately you should notice your hair standing up with volume, rather then lying flat.  I love this stuff and use Surface Push Powder, but may opt for something a little cheaper since this runs about $25.  This stuff is great instead of using a dry shampoo.  It takes away grease and residue leaving hair looking full and bouncy.  

Cons- the only cons that I have found are that the powder is white, so it can leave a little residue on my darker hair.  I make sure to really massage it in and then comb through my hair to ensure that there is no residue left behind.  Secondly when washing hair this stuff is tough to get out and you may experience that when lathering your hair with shampoo it literally will not lather.  When this stuff is in your hair make sure that you shampoo your hair twice!  That will ensure that all the product is out!  Remember this picture below?  Well this was 3 days without me washing my hair, and using my powder.  As you can tell my hair looks perfect, and no one would even guess that I hadn’t washed it in 3 days!

Surface Push Powder- This is the first volumizing powder that I was introduced to and from the moment I bought it I was hooked!  As most of you know I probably wash my hair 2-3 times a week to maintain a healthy balance of natural oils in my hair, and to allow it to do its own thing and grow.  With this stuff I can feel confident going out with unwashed hair, knowing that no one will be able to tell because my hair does not look greasy and has amazing volume!  I absolutely love this stuff, but have found that there are cheaper brands then this one that give you the same results!  This stuff runs about $25 and is a TINY bottle, but I can say I have had it for about 5 months, and still have not run out of it even with using it 3-4 times a week, so I think it ultimately was worth the purchase.  I found mine on Amazon.com.  The one thing i will say is that this stuff definitely makes your hair feel a little weird, but I will take weird over greasy any day!

Big Sexy Hair Powder Play- This is another version of volumizing hair powder.  It comes out white, and it is odorless.  You can find this one for $12 on Amazon.com.  Want to hear what people are saying about this?  Here are some reviews from real customers who purchased this

Review 1 - I told my hair dresser that I needed her to teach me how to backcomb my hair and she told be that I didn't need to backcomb my hair to get volume on top. That is when she showed me this product. And when she got done putting it in my hair I was amazed. With my fingers only, I could style volume into my hair...if that makes since. :)

Also I am a person who has to wash my hair every morning and the next morning when I woke up with the product still in my hair, my hair was not greasy looking and I was able to just comb and style my hair real quick and get out the door. Great stuff. Highly recommend it to people with fine/thin hair.

Review 2 - I have super straight, thick, heavy hair. A lot of styling aids like wax and balms weigh my hair down rather than supporting the syle. Powder Play keeps my volume without weighing it down. It also keeps the shine in my hair. Just lift hair at the crown where you want volume, sprinkle and let go of he hair. Run your fingers through a little and top with a bit of spray if you want. I have all-day volume, even in humid weather. Highly recommend.

Review 3 - I have very thin brittle hair, very prone to damage. I've always struggled with my hair retaining volume after I blow it out with a round brush. I recently came across this product and was soo excited. I no longer have to resort to back combing which we all know is harsh on your hair. Just sprinkle and rub and you get instant lift and volume. Hubby loves how sexy it makes my hair look, very satisfied :)

Some people find that this formula is a tad sticky.  What people need to understand is that this formula is going to feel a little weird, and even feel weird in your hair.  But if you can manage to not wash your hair for a couple days, and still have hair that looks amazing and has volume then who cares what the formula feels like?  Just don't touch your hair!

Got2B Powder’ful Volumizing Styling Powder – This is another version of volumizing powder, but a lot cheaper then the first two.  This is about $7 and the only place I have seen it is on Amazon.com.  Here are some reviews on this product

Review 1 - I have thin oily hair. Nothing gives my hair volume no matter how MUCH i use. I bought this at a drug store and sprinkled a little on my scalp in several places. BOOM! Instant umph! It lasts all day. All i do is scrunch and lift and the umph comes back. Will ALWAYS carry this in my purse as long as they keep making it!

Review 2 - My hairdresser put this powder in my hair because I have thin hair which tends to part at the windmill (on the back, top of my head) and makes it impossible to look full. This magical powder disappeared into my hair and made it a bit sticky but whenever I fluffed it, POW!! Body and lift ALL DAY!! This powder is a miracle for hair issues like mine. I definitely recommend to anyone who needs extra "UMPH" in their hair without all the extra drama.

Review 3 - This stuff is the best invention since sliced bread. Especially if you hair is kind of greasy or dirty, just a small amount applied at the roots gives tremendous lift and volume!!!

Some other options include Redken Powdergrip ($14) on Amazon.com and Not Your Mother’s Girl Powder Volumizing Powder ($6) on Amazon.com.  So if you feel like your hair could use a little boost, skip the mousses and gels and opt for something lighter like a volumizing powder.  I can tell you from experience that it helps make hair look clean even when it’s at its dirtiest, and makes hair look full and voluminous.
